White teeth – and why they are desired

That we at OnlySmile actively promote white teeth is no secret. Bright and healthy teeth are a frequently cited beauty feature that is expressed across all cultures. Like a representative survey now has resulted, this applies to both for men as well as on women. Today, we will discuss the science behind beauty ideals and attractiveness in general.

Character traits are more important than appearance

According to the survey, both men and women consider cheerfulness, kindness, and self-confidence to be among the most important traits in attractiveness assessment. 60 - 70% of both genders indicated that these traits are among the most important when judging a person's beauty. Among other things, the average global ratings were compared to those of German ratings. However, the differences are consistently minimal, which is why it can rightly be claimed that the aforementioned traits are regarded as beauty ideals worldwide.

Two things stand out. First, none of these traits are primarily associated with external appearances such as a slim figure or large muscles. This is the first fact that may come as a surprise to many. Instead, character traits seem to play a much larger role. Second, there are various commonalities among these character traits that manifest in behavior. For example, confident people stand upright, straight, and with their heads held high. Cheerfulness and friendliness are noticeable through corresponding gestures, such as active engagement with the person they are interacting with.

It is also no secret that happy and friendly people laugh more often. And when laughing, you can see the teeth, which is also one of the many reasons why white teeth represent such an important and widely accepted beauty ideal. They are automatically associated with friendly and cheerful people and make you appear more confident.

White teeth are still important

White teeth continue to be very important for the assessment of attractiveness. Depending on which category one belongs to, up to around 30% of both genders still indicate that white teeth, as components of sexual attractiveness, cosmetics, or similar, remain a significant criterion for a high rating.
