Das Mundstück und seine Reinigung

The mouthpiece and its cleaning: Is it even hygienic if I use it multiple times?

While the gel, similar to toothpaste, is of course not reusable and ultimately ends up in the drain, the tray is preserved for multiple uses. It visually resembles a medical night guard but is made of silicone. The tray is not customized to your dental structure and therefore has a bit of play. Below, you will learn how to best care for the OnlySmile mouthpiece tray.

Cleaning with the toothbrush

The material of the mouthpiece does not generally provide a good breeding ground for bacteria. However, the silicone comes into contact with saliva and thus various microorganisms that can multiply under optimal conditions in case of doubt.

To inhibit bacterial growth after at-home teeth bleaching and to keep the material flexible for a long time, you can briefly clean the tray with your toothbrush and a small dab of toothpaste after each use. Then, rinse off the residue with clear water and let the tray dry well. After that, it is ready for the next teeth whitening session.

Note: You do not need any special cleaning agents such as braces cleaner, specific tabs, or disinfectants to clean your mouthpiece.

Storage in a dry and dark place

Once you have finished cleaning the dental tray after home bleaching, you can simply store it away. Make sure it is completely dry before packing it away and choose a storage place with low humidity and no direct sunlight. Heat can make the material brittle and discolor it.

If you follow these tips, your brace will last a long time.

Since Corona, our understanding of hygiene has changed. Therefore, you might not want to share your aligner with your household (roommates, partner, children) anymore. In our online shop, there is individual mouth trays for bleaching at home for 9.90 euros. Check it out now!
