Sensitive teeth can have a variety of causes, which we have already explained in detail at this point. Today, we will discuss what you or your treating dentist can do about sensitive teeth.
What you can do for sensitive teeth
The following methods can help you eliminate acute pain or effectively prevent it.
- Correct Brushing of Teeth
The best thing to do is to have your dentist show you a gentle tooth brushing technique. We at OnlySmile recommend using a soft toothbrush. These usually stand out due to comparatively less strain on the gums and still help to clean the teeth.
- Special toothpastes and mouthwashes
In supermarkets or pharmacies, there are special oral care products specifically developed for sensitive teeth. These are often labeled with the term "sensitive." These products contain special active ingredients that seal the exposed tubules at the tooth neck. Notable ingredients include strontium, calcium, arginine, or aminofluoride. This can help with sensitive teeth.
What your dentist can do
Since sensitive teeth have existed for quite some time, dentistry has now developed a number of efficient methods to treat sensitive teeth. Below you will find some examples from a whole range of possible procedures:
- Sealing
In particular, exposed tooth necks can be sealed with thin liquid plastic or certain medications. The active ingredients contained in the medications and the plastic create easily soluble deposits that block the dentinal tubules. A sealing is particularly effective because a single application prevents the occurrence of further pain stimuli.
- Tooth neck fillings
Also here, plastic is used again. This time, however, in the form of a filling that seals the hollowed-out neck area of the tooth. This effectively keeps unpleasant stimuli away from the sensitive parts of a tooth.
If the teeth begin to loosen, the gums bleed more frequently, or significant recession is observable over time, it is urgent to visit the dentist. We at OnlySmile advise against using our products for teeth that are sensitive to pain.
